The Maya Sacred Cycle of Life

In the Sacred Maya Temple Ceremony, the Elders tell of babies coming from Heaven. As they grow and live on the earth they are taught by their parents to do good. They are tempted by the adversary. But as they live their lives the way their parents have taught them, when they die, their spirits are resurrected back into heaven from whence they came, to live with their ancestors.

“Izapa Stela 5 is the most detailed and important Tree of Life rendering in the ancient world.” – Mary Ellen Miller, Yale University. This Tree of Life monument displays the Maya sacred Cycle of Life.

The Ancestral Tree represents humanity’s journey from its 12 Tribal Ancestral roots at the bottom of the Tree to the eight fruit-filled branches near heaven. The “red”_ Quetzalcoatl God, at the right center of the Tree, directs people to the Tree. The “red” mother Goddess, at the left center of the Tree, gives the Tree’s fruit to a person who has followed Quetzalcoatl’s directions that led him out of darkness and to the tree. He partakes of the fruit, and his spirit is (reborn) resurrected into the heavenly realm.
